Ohana

Ohana is an iPad application that empowers the elderly to be more independent and be able to connect with their loved ones more inuitively and simply.

Simplify focus on making the experience of using the new technology more visceral and more enjoyable for the elderly.

For their loved ones, there is a website to set up everything such as contacts, credit cards, and other informations without traveling across states, or countries to help their parents or grandparents changing or fixing anything.

MHacks Team:

We are a team of four students from different backgrounds.

One is major neuroscience, two are majoring computer science and I'm majoring interaction and industrial design.

For this project, I'm responsible for user testing, wireframing, designing the graphics and do usability tests.

Interaction elements:

Every task can be achieved with few clicks.

No complicated gestures like swipe or scrolling... etc.

All the apps we incorporated will be simplified so the elderly won't have any confusions with different functions.

The interaction will be very similar to clicking a physical button which is the interaction they are more familiar with.

The area of the button is very big so if the elderly's hands are shaking it is still easy for them to perform the task.

FIRST PROTOTYPE:

This is our first working prototype and currently we are performing usability testings and further revision before we put it on app store.

Research:

Based on our interview, there are a huge need for this from both the grandparents and their loved ones. Grandparents won't feel like they need to depend on anyone to contact people or do the things they want to do.

Family members appreciate an easier way of communicating and making sure everything is good with their grandparents.

SECOND PROTOTYPE:

Fully designed and programmed with OnBoarding and account management .

Third PROTOTYPE:

Created grid architecture for

the entire app to solve the navigation

confusion due to inconsistent ways to

navigate throughout the app.
